Announcement from Wellness Editor Tara Parker-Pope:

We are delighted to announce that Anjuman Ali has been promoted to deputy wellness editor and will help lead our expanding coverage of personal health and well-being.

As the team’s deputy, Anju will help supervise a staff of writers and freelancers who will create science-based service journalism focused on a range of personal health topics. Anju brings to her new role a lifelong passion for health and science, a slew of creative story ideas and the calm and steady demeanor essential to launching a new vertical.

Anju is ideally qualified for this new role. Since joining The Post in 2010, she has forged a reputation as a supportive and collaborative colleague with expansive knowledge of newsroom practices and systems across various desks and platforms. Her first role was mobile editor, helping a print-focused newsroom create mobile-friendly content and managing an editorial team that helped develop some of our earliest Web-based apps. In 2011, she became a topics editor and honed her editing skills on local, national and foreign news.

For the past eight months, Anju has helped create our popular Health & Science print report, working alongside Pooh Shapiro to manage freelancers and work with our talented team of staff reporters covering health and science.

Prior to joining The Post, Anju worked as an editor at the Wall Street Journal Europe and as an interactive editor, foreign editor and editorial writer for the Wisconsin State Journal. During her time in Wisconsin, she was part of an editorial writing team named a finalist for the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for a spirited opinion page campaign to curtail the Wisconsin governor's veto power. She has also worked as a reporter for newspapers in Ohio and Pennsylvania and the Associated Press in Cleveland.

Anju, who has a PhD in political science from Kent State University, was recently selected for the 2022 Health Coverage Fellowship, which focuses on issues such as public health, mental health and covering the uninsured. She has also completed fellowships at the Knight Digital Media Center and the International Women’s Media Foundation.

Born in India, Anju moved to the United States for her doctorate. She has bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Mumbai. She speaks multiple languages and has diplomas in Indian classical dances. Anju lives in D.C. and enjoys biking, trying new restaurants and traveling, especially to India, as well as Belgium, where she lived for four years, and southern Oregon, where she goes to spoil her niece and nephew.
